Essential Functions:

The applicant will work as a member of a team providing Windows, SCCM, Active Directory and Linux support at WRAIR.  As a member of the top-tier systems administration staff, the applicant is expected to have a broad background in AD and MS 2003/2008 servers.  To be successful, an applicant should have in-depth experience with DFS and DFS-R; advanced file server permissions delegation and rights management; Group Policy; advanced OU management; and scripting (VBScript or PowerShell).  Experience with VMware ESX, virtualization analysis, and consolidation activities are a plus.  Experience in NAS/SAN technologies such as EMC / NetApp / Dell.  The applicant should have experience in group policy management (GPO).  Must also be familiar with DoD STIG policies for various operating systems and applications.  Experience in setting up and configuring Microsoft Clusters.  The applicant will be expected to maintain all security and critical patches on all network systems (Microsoft security / critical updates) and will install new and upgrade old software as needed to be DoD compliant (e.g., Adobe Flash, Java update).

As part of the SA team, the position will be responsible for providing administration, monitoring troubleshooting, and problem resolution for the Microsoft Windows environment.  The applicant will support, develop, document, test, and implement engineering solutions.  Also, the applicant will ensure all data identified as critical is backed up daily/weekly/monthly.  This will require a broad knowledge of enterprise computing and general networking competencies.  Developing solutions will require applicants to have excellent scripting and automation skills to develop solutions for enterprise-specific solutions.

Essential Knowledge:

Applicants must have a high-degree of technical knowledge related to hardware and software.

  • Windows Server Operating Systems (Windows Enterprise Server 2008)
  • Active Directory administration and management (manage objects and groups)
  • Group Policy Objects (GPOs) administration and management
  • Windows Server - Security standards and configuration management
  • Windows 7 knowledge required
  • Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) to create and modify documentation
  • Effective problem solving
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, procedures and technical documentation
  • Experience in a DoD environment is a plus

Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of Active Directory in a Windows 7/ Server 2008 environment.  Knowledge and experience with AD administration is required.  Knowledge and experience with virtualization (VMware) is required.  Applicants must be skilled at communicating, in English, both verbally and in writing.

Essential Education/Certifications/Clearance:

Experience and Education – Must have three to five years of IT experience.

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems and three to five years of experience as a Systems Administrator is preferred.

Technical Certification – Must have current Security+ certification

Technical Certification – Must have one of the following Computing Environment (CE) certifications (Windows Server 2003 is not acceptable):

MCTS: Windows Server 2008

Active Directory or Network Infrastructure or Applications Infrastructure

MCSA: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2012

MCITP: Server Administrator 2008 / Enterprise Administrator on Windows Server 2008

MCSE: Server Infrastructure (Windows Server 2012)

Security Clearance – Must have a current National Agency Check with Law and Credit (NACLC) investigation (a DoD Secret clearance active within the last three years will most likely be supported by at least a NACLC)

Other Desired Skills:

Must have strong team skills and a customer-support background handling complex hardware and software systems.  Also must have excellent computer and customer service skills; strong verbal communication skills; efficient organizational skills; and the ability to multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.  In addition to being a team player, must be a self-starter able to work and learn independently.  Can-do attitude and time management skills are critical.

Organizational “Fit” Considerations:

Must be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and good work ethic.  Position requires flexibility stemming from occasional after-hours work and the mission environment.  Must understand and enjoy providing support to a fast-paced operational enterprise.
