MS SQL Database Administrator

AboutWeb is currently searching for an MS SQL Database Administrator to support a federal project in Quantico, VA.

Position Description: The DBA is responsible for the administration of multiple MS SQL databases that reside on the customer’s network. This individual is responsible for all database administration tasks including but not limited to installation, migration, maintenance, optimization, troubleshooting, repair, backup, and replication.

The DBA is the database technical lead for all MS SQL databases and performs under general supervision. The individual is considered to have extensive to expert level experience with managing Oracle database.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and health of all SQL databases, related systems, and/or applications
  • Works with application administrators to ensure that all applications are functioning properly and resolves all database issues
  • Makes recommendation for hardware upgrade based on system performance and forecasted growth. Work independently but also function in a team oriented environment and have excellent communication skills
  • Responsible for SQL databases from cradle to grave including installation, configuration, and maintenance, and decommissioning
  • Responsible to coordinate, manage, and perform off hours system updates and break/fixes
  • Will be responsible to learn and take on novice to moderate level Oracle DBA tasks

  

Qualifications:

  • Top Secret Clearance is required for consideration
  • 8570 IAT Level II Certification is required for consideration
  • Experience with the administration of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2012 instances that have been installed in multi-node clustered environments at the operating system level
  • Experience with the administration of MSSQL instances that have been configured in a Continuity of Operations (COOP) manner with servers hosting instances that are geographically dislocated
  • Experience with replication technologies that are used to support MSSQL to include log shipping, transactional, and snapshot replication
  • Experience with third party replication technologies to include Vision Solutions Double-Take product is a plus
  • Experience with the successful implementation of service packs and version upgrades for MSSQL is required
  • Experience with the creation of backup scripts and the various backup strategies that are provided by Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with integrating the various MSSQL backup strategies with Symantec Netbackup is a plus
  • Experience with understanding and executing Data Manipulation Language (DML) scripts for Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with performing and recommending performance tuning strategies for Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience producing database metrics using SQL Management Studio as well as the creation of custom scripts
  • Experience operating in Windows Server 2008 R2 hosted on a virtual platform such as VMware
  • A basic understanding of executing power shell scripts and as they related to MSSQL is required
  • Experience developing, producing, and reporting metrics on database performance and health
  • Must be able to work independent function in a team oriented environment and have excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to make recommendation for hardware upgrade based on system performance and forecasted growth
